After a good week of sunny skies and extreme wind we have a cloudy day. The forecast was possible snow south of i 90. i'm a good mile north if i 90 and we have snow!!! not much, and it is pretty. This should help those iris ribozomes i put in the ground this am get established. Planting flowers in February? Last fall i split a bagillion iris and didnt get them in. so with picax in hand i decided they have a better chance of making it in the ground instead of the plastic tub under the deck. if not there are plenty still in tubs for spring.
I have been dyeing lots of pinks, peaches and yellows for more sunrise pink. lots of aqua and deep golden rust for more Wild West. Last night I corespun a beautiful extremely soft white roving on to an angora yarn. one skein, I autowrapped with a fine gold thread. so pretty. only 2 skeins of this, one is the autowrapped and one just white. nice worsted weight, and fairly smooth for me!105 yards each. 35.00 each. pm me if you are interested.

February 28, 2010 Friday and Saturday I went a bit up north, what seemed like deep into the mountains for a knitting retreat. The place was very rustic, must have been built with repurposed lumber, yet clean and modern. Friday we enjoyed chatting and knitting by the fireplace.I knit a shoulder scarf with 'Montana', croched a scarf with 'willy wonka' and Montana. Saturday some gals learned intrelac knitting, i spun my new blend of Taos yarn. A couple of us went out for a walk along a path that led us over the ridge thru the woods. Everywhere were fascinating rock totems. Just simple stacks of bowling ball sized rocks. I want to go back in the summer to see the gardens in bloom. I met the gal, kim, who makes those fun knitted knitting cards. she is just delightfully entertaining. i hadnt realized those cute cards are created by someone right here in Coeurd'alene!
February 24, 2010 Tonight I teach a Mobius class at Harmony Yarns in Coeurd'alene. My ondogi dyeing has come out beautiful. February 22, 2010 We are having some very warm days here. 50* is nice for February. Saturday at Bear Paw, I bought some beautiful brown shetland x merino fleeces. More, the brown finn roving from sandra willard is wonderful. i have a spinning plan for it. but today is another warm sunny day and the INDIGO is calling me. I have my water heating quite a few things ready to dip!!

February 16, 2010 i have done an update on my free with purchase pattern section. hopefully some things are clear and pictures updated.
February 12, 2010 i have been spinning the wool roving i indigo dyed last fall. it should be rinsed first, but in doing that i would felt it, so i am spinning the yarn, then rinsing the excess indigo out. lots of hot water, rubbing in the tide, letting it soak, rinsing, rubbing...[this has me thinking of how we never washed our new blue jeans with the laundry, or everything would come out blueish. now the commercial processing has become so refined we have stone washed jeans and never give a thought to them crocking all over the load of wash.} i had dyed many different colors types of wools, before i spin them now i have put all these thru my picker to mix them up. this yarn is so pretty. i will get some posted soon as i can take a picture.

October 11, 2009 NEW YARN Montana is a colorway I have wanted to do for a few years. Everytime I drive east on I-90 into Montana we are in the midst of the northern Rockies. After picking the colors together I spun the wool, mohair blend on my Louet wheel, then plyed it with a fine gray yarn. this is a very soft yarn. check out my free patterns, knit or crochet yourself something warm!

I am working on a New Yarn "yuletide". soft brown cvm from emily at Sandpoint ID, picked with lots of shades of rusts. June 29, 2009 yesterday i was able to attend the plucky fluff camp here at paradise fibers in spokane. What a fun day. Lexi lead us through the spinning of her great yarns. i did core spinning with elastic thread. what a bouncy yarn this is! the loopy yarn was fun. about every 5th loop i did came out. another core spinning with plucks of mohair and everything else that can be spun is pretty. then we overspun a single and while plying it with a core yarn let the overtwists squiggle out. With lots of time to practice between yarns i am hoping to remember the details of how i spun these fun yarns. The crew at Paradise fibers is just great. They fed us and kept every ones spinning equipment going. i have pictures which i will soon get posted in my gallery here.

February 13, 2009 The new batch of Jaguar is listed. There are a couple more pounds to spin, but this is a start. NEW YARN---Sultan. I was inspired by a terra cotta sunny face i saw while out for a walk. These yellow/gold/rust colors really warm you up, perfect for our cloudy winter days. I cant wait to spin more.
February 12, 2009 i have spun more skeins of Blizzard. This is a very white wool picked with mohair locks dyed every possible color, after spinning i plyed it with a fine white rayon yarn. i am also spinning more Jaguar. Jaguar is a black alpaca from Rochelle Fairfield, carded ,( yes I sometimes card fiber!) with sari silk bits. These need to be carded in to blend the alpaca and silk for smooth spinning. After spinning I plyed it with a fine black cashmere yarn. And finally I wash the yarn. Alpaca is so clean i do not wash it until it is yarn and I am setting the twist. While it is wet I then whack each skein on concrete to really bond the silk fibers in. This also fiver the yarn a nice bloom. I can list it just as soon as it is dry, so i can weigh it. Today I am dyeing a pretty light brown fleece spruce green. Soon there will be more skeins of Spruce listed.
February 11, 2009 my weaving is going well. my warp is 10 yards of a pale celery green rayon yarn. i went through every other dent giving me 5 dpi. i used 2 skeins of drizzle to do a shawl. it will be probably 18 inches wide and 60 inches long. today i did another with olive mist, a sage rayon boucle held together with a celery mohair, an olive silk eyelash and a gray brown sheep lambs pride bulky. i wove random stripes. it should be the same size. i am thinking of using blizzard next. maybe striping with some of the sage rayon boucle to tie it all together. or the mohair locks 'ice'. hopefully i am keeping better track of how much warp i am using as i weave. last time i thought i had a little left and it went on forever!!
February 9, 2009 we had a great time in my spinning class saturday at paradise fibers. they have talked me into a next level spinning class. in this we could cover more about plying, other fibers like mohair, alpaca... i will stick with animal fibers. and maybe some novelty techniques i use. check out the paradise fibers website to register.

February 25, 2008 We had a great time at Quails nest saturday. first i taught a spindle spinning class. Everyone did a fantastic job with their first spinning attempt. the mobius class also did an excellent job getting started on their mobi's (?) I am always amazed at the beautiful color choices everyone puts together. Then I had an open house, trunk show and everyone was able to purchase my yarns.
i plan to get back in the next month for another mobius class. let janelle know if you'd like to sign up. or any other items i have patterns for can become a class. I think the hat or purse are the next favorite to become a class.

February 8, 2008 Another NEW YARN
olive mist. this very soft bulky yarn is spun from several soft fleeces and mohair locks. I dyed the fleeces olive and then picked them with another natural gray fleece and natural gray mohair locks.
February 3, 2008 NEW YARNS.
Shirley Mae. This natural gray fleece from Shirley, a sheep owned by ruth plesner, near Hamilton Montana dyed beautifully in many jewel tones. I picked it with another gray fleece named Mae. this very soft bulky yarn is in 105 yard skeins.
Splash 08. Rambouillet wool from Nina Olsen, near Davenport WA. I dyed these fleeces many shades of blues and greens. These are very soft bulky yarns.
Sedona Pinks. I have had requests for pink and brown yarn. So here is is. Sedona is a sheep that has a very soft natural brown fleece. The fleece I purchased is one of her offspring. I picked it with wool and mohair I dyed many shades of pinks. another very soft bulky yarn. The skeins are all at least 105 yards. This is enough to do a scarf,or hat, or mittens. I also have 2 and 3 skein projects. Check out my free pattern section and request them with your yarn order.
January 31, 2008 Several new yarns. These were handspun by my daughter. They are very soft colonial wool plyed with soft stripe wool yarns. Natural heatherd colors.
January 27, 2008 We have had the biggest snow storm since 1954 here in Spokane area. one to two feet of snow has fallen in 24 hours. And I was missing a good old fashion Minnesota snow storm. ! Most of the day I spent spinning...(and shoveling)...another NEW YARN. Splash 08. Rambouillet wool from Nina Olsen and mohair from Margaret Steffens. I dyed pound batches with every shade of blue and green I have. After picking it all together I spun it into a soft bouncy bulky yarn.
January 26, 2008 As I washed and dyed fleeces all week I also finished spinning Huckleberry Splash. there are 14 skeins listed now. This is the end of it. All those jewel colors are calling me now, or maybe the olive/grays, but the blue/greens look refreshing! What to spin next?
January 19, 2008 Another NEW YARN, 'Jaguar'. Jaguar is a very black alpaca fleece from Rochell Fairfield's alpaca flock at Alpaca Glen farm, near Coeurd'alene Idaho. I carded it with sari silk bits, spun it and plied it with a fine black wool yarn. This very soft bulky yarn is a real luxury.
January 17, 2008 The past few days have been filled with a total winter experience. I drove to Bozeman Montana in winter driving conditions. i am not big on driving especially in snow and especially through the most beautiful mountain drive in the country.
When the snow is deeper than the 'welcome to Idaho sign' i should not be behind the wheel. our daughter is returning to this east Spokane/Idaho area. I am very happy to have her near us again. While there I looked up a local shepherdess, Tina Gilchrist to buy some fleeces. They are beautiful, soft and clean. two medium brown , two white and a gray with lots of variation. I can not wait to wash them. Tina introduced me to the sheep. As she pointed out which fleeces i was buying, my eyes were distracted with the most beautiful view. beyond the sheep was the snow covered Gallatin Valley and snowy mountains in the distance. Behind us is the west side of Bridger Mountain, where we skied recently. This area is Sypes canyon. As I spin these wonderful fleeces my mind will be picturing the view these sheep live with every day!
January 14, 2008 I have been spinning more Storm clouds. A total of 12 skeins now and probably 8 more to spin. Must be all the snow storms we had last week! I have also been dyeing pretty lavenders and some olives and blues all for separate colorways. don't forget I am offering free shipping on all orders through January.
January 11,2008 NEW YARN i have been spinning Yuletide. A beautiful soft brown wool. I dyed mohair locks many shades of rusty reds, leaving some white, picked it all together. After spinning, I plyed it with a gold lurex thread. This yarn looks so warm and cozy, just like a yuletide log in the fire.
January 4,2008 I have been spinning more skeins of blue earth and old red barn. Today I went to Paradise Fibers and bought some dyes. Trying a new soft pink on some mohair. I hope to blend it with a brown fleece.
