IRIS dyeing
|
Description:
I picked a million iris flowers , purple ones and maroon/gold ones, keeping them in the freezer until i had several plastic grocery bags of each. This basket is all the yarn and fiber i dyed with my iris. the deeper colors are silk. it took the dye in a deeper color than the wool. i brewed the iris, mordant the fiber in alun and creme of tarter. i put the iris(each color separate) and yarn right in the pot toghther, and cooked it on a low heat for several hours then let it cool. There was always lots of color in the pot, so i kept adding more mordanted fiber until i was exhausted! the deep purple vat never did exhaust!
